Die Anthologie Poetry and Prose of the Han, Wei and Six Dynasties versammelt englische Übersetzungen zentraler lyrischer und prosaischer Texte aus der chinesischen Literatur der Han-, Wei-, Jin- und Sechs-Dynastien-Zeit. Der Band bietet eine epochenübergreifende Auswahl klassischer Fu-Dichtung, Yuefu-Volkslieder, Gedichte einzelner Autoren sowie bedeutende Prosatexte der frühen Literatur- und Religionsgeschichte. Neben poetischen Formen enthält das Buch auch frühmittelalterliche Erzählprosa, buddhistische Reiseberichte und literaturtheoretische Texte und vermittelt so einen kompakten Überblick über die Entwicklung früher chinesischer Literaturgattungen.
