Es war dies nämlich das Wort, welches, zu Folge der biblischen Erzählung (B. d. Richter XII. 6.), die lispelnden Ephraimiter, auf die Anfrage der Gileaditer, nur Siboleth aussprechen konnten; dadurch verriethen sie sich und wurden alsdann von diesen an dem Jordan sofort niedergemacht.
